5It sells itself  Aug 28, 2010
I've cooked crappie, frys and hushpuppies for friends and family. After every meal, my guests ask me to order them a fryer. I've ordered 5 deep fryers so far.

1Does not heat to the promised 375 degrees.  Aug 28, 2010
Ordered this machine as it is small (storage problem), and promised to heat to 375. I deep fry mainly seafood and temp is critical. On 1st use, heated fresh peanut oil, took the temp with candy thermometer, found it only reached 350. Fried the seafood, but myself and guests found it to be greasy. Checked the candy theremometer, and it was accurate. Thanks to Amazon's great return policy, returned the item and reordered. Was delivered within the week. Few days later, with more guests, heated the new one and to my dismay, the temp came to only 325. As I had shrimp, squid, scallops & guests, I resorted to the Martha Stewart method. I very carefully poured the 325 oil into a stock pot, attached the candy thermometer, and heated to 375. Result was crisp tasty seafood,(although the cooktop was heavily splattered with oil from the sputtering squid). Would not recommend this fryer if you need optimal heat. Noticed other reviews on this unit, as well as the next larger size by Waring that could not reach 375.

5Fantastic deep fryer. Love it. Plus donut recipe.  Aug 27, 2010
Just got my DF55 today in the mail. I read the directions, cleaned the parts, added oil, and plugged it in. I have already made beer battered onion rings, fried green tomatoes, and donuts. They all turned out perfect. I was searching all over to find things to deep fry. I couldn't come up with anything else just yet so I turned it off and I already have it cleaned up. The clean up was so quick and easy. I am now resting my stomache and thought I would write my review. If you are looking for a smaller deep fryer then look no further. There is just 2 of us and it is the perfect size.
I am getting off the subject real quick and tell you about my donuts. I haven't made these in years. I opened up a roll of buttermilk biscuits. I took the cap off my bottle of vanilla extract and used it to cut the centers out of my biscuits. Dropped them into my deep fryer until brown. Let them cool and then made my glaze and rolled the cool cooked donuts in the glaze mixture. I just used powdered sugar and a little milk for the glaze. Not too runny and not too thick. They were perfect and didn't last long...
Just love this deep fryer. I am now heading out to my pond and catch some fish. Can't wait to see how the fish turns out!! Here fishy fishy......

5A GREAT deep fryer !!!!!!!!!!  Aug 19, 2010
I took about a week before buying this deep fryer and I'm glad I took that time to read reviews and product features of MANY MANY deep fryers. All different brands and sizes. I am absolutely thrilled over this one I purchased. Basket was a lot deeper than I had expected and the thickness of the lid and shell were of MUCH better quality than I expected. It heats up FAST and recovery time is excellent. For one or 2 people this is PERFECT. 5 STAR .......EXCELLENT in EVER way !!! Would definately buy and recommend this one again ! In todays "not so good quality" this is in a class of its own.

5perfect small fryer  Aug 17, 2010
I started with the Presto 1 quart frier which is a small round gadget. Despite having a 390 setting, it never got hot enough, and its basket was too small to hold more than a few fries. So, I returned it and got the Waring D55 instead.

The Plusses --

Very easy to clean; it completely disassembles
Gets hot enough to make crispy fries
Has a large enough, and square enough, basket to be practical
Has a light that shows when it has reached the correct temperature

There weren't any minuses. I can't imagine having a problem with the electrical cord being held in magnetically; I put the frier on the counter, fill it with oil, and turn it on. I don't see any reason why I would manage to disconnect the cord except for some kind of "accident", which is its purpose.

So far, I am very pleased with the Waring Pro D55. It really is the right size and it does what I want it to do really well.
